Who is entitled to Free Legal Aid in Norway?

To be eligible for free legal aid in Norway, Poles must meet the following criteria:

Group 1 – Types of Legal Matters:

  • Civil Law: Things like that regarding the removal of a child or restriction of parental rights by the Norwegian government (Barnevernet).
  • Criminal law: In case of suspicion of committing a crime; victims of unfair criminal proceedings.
  • Victims of Violence or Persecution: Lawsuits for compensation from the perpetrator.
  • Legal advice in matters of family pathology: Situations involving physical or psychological violence, threats.
  • Mental disorders: Matters relating to care and psychiatric treatment.

Group 2 – Financial Constraints:

  • Family law: Issues of division of property or child care, such as visitation rights.
  • Damage to Health: Mental or physical, for example as a result of assault.
  • Housing Problems: Unlawful ejection from the apartment, termination of the lease and other problems related to accommodation.
  • Labor law: Unlawful dismissal, disciplinary dismissal, or termination of the employment contract.
  • Tips Regarding Compensations: For people injured in accidents or by the state.

ATTENTION – Very Important Information!

Free legal assistance is always available to Group 1.

In Group 2, free legal aid is available in many cases, provided the following criteria are met:

  • For Families: Annual earnings cannot exceed NOK 540 gross. Monthly, this amount should not equal or exceed NOK 000 gross.
  • For Single People: Annual earnings must not exceed NOK 359 gross. Monthly, this amount should not equal or exceed NOK 000 gross.
  • Property Restrictions: Total assets should not exceed NOK 100 gross.
