Earnings in Norway 2019 - how much will you earn the least?

Wages in Norway are among the most attractive in Europe, and the standard of living allows Norwegians to be "the happiest nation in the world". It is also worth knowing that although there is no minimum wage, there are industries for which the lowest salary threshold has been set.

The happiest nation in the world

About the earnings in Norway allow for a peaceful and prosperous life, as indicated, for example, by this year's World Happiness Report. Norwegians were classified into pierwszym place. It is not without significance that other Scandinavian countries are also in the lead in terms of happiness - Denmark was second, and Iceland closed the podium in third place.

Wages in Norway - the second in Europe

In terms of height salaries, Norwegians rank second in Europe. Only the Swiss earn more. According to the Norwegian Statistical Office (Statistisk sentralbyrå), average salary in the Land of Fjords in the second quarter of 2018 amounted to 45 570 NOK, which gives approx. PLN 20. The average is slightly different in the case of immigrants from first generation (i.e. those who were not born in Norway) - such people earned on average in the second quarter of 2018 40 NOK, i.e. approx. 17 800 zł monthly.

Minimum wages in Norway

It is worth emphasizing that Norwegian law does not provide minimum wage, although in some industries this is starting to change. According to the Norwegian Labor Inspectorate (norw. Arbeidstilsynet), introducing such solutions for specified professions aims at assurance protect foreign workers from being too low salary. Such rates apply, among others in catering, hotel and construction industries and in cleaning services sector.

Minimum hourly wages in gastronomy and hospitality

The thresholds for the minimum hourly wages in gastronomy and hospitality are determined depending on the age of the employee. People over 20 can earn the most - currently they have to earn a minimum 161,87 NOK for an hour. Young people from the area of 18 years of age - exactly on 129,59 NOK for an hour. In turn, employees who have more than they will earn minimal 115,33 NOKwhile above From the age of 16, NOK 105,83 for an hour.

Construction industry

A slightly different gradation was adopted with regard to the construction industry. In this sector, it is not age but qualifications that determine earnings. Qualified employees can count on the most - 203,80 NOK for an hour. People with at least one year of experience in the industry, but without qualifications, will earn less - 191 NOK for an hour. However, if they do not have experience and qualifications, then the minimum hourly wage is NOK 183,10. Workers under the age of 18 will earn a minimum wage 122,90 NOK for an hour.

Cleaning services

People employed in cleaning companies must earn a minimum 181,43 NOK for an hour. However, if the employee is under 18, then he can count on 133,39 NOK for an hour.

Shipbuilding industry workers

There are three minimum hourly wages in the shipbuilding industry - skilled workers must earn the minimum 176,05 NOK per hour, specialists in the respective professions 168,03 NOK per hour, and the helpers 160,10 NOK for an hour. In this case, however, an hourly bonus applies, provided that the performance of professional duties involves the need to spend the night away from home. This allowance amounts to: NOK 35,21, NOK 33,61 i NOK 32,02.

Employees in the shipbuilding industry can also count on other salary bonuses. Provided, however, that they work in shifts. See more details on the website of the Norwegian Labor Inspectorate.

Horticulture and agriculture

The system of determining the minimum wage in the horticultural and agricultural services sector is a bit more complicated. The rates depend both on the age of the employee and the nature of the employment (permanent or temporary). In the case of holiday work, the minimum hourly wage is as follows:

  • persons under the age of 18 - NOK 98,65
  • people over 18 years old - 118,65 NOK if he or she is employed for up to 12 weeks,
  • people over 18 years old - NOK 124,15 if they are employed for 12-24 weeks,
  • people over 18 years of age employed for a period of over 6 months - NOK 135,05.

Employees permanently employed in this industry can count on different minimum hourly wages. An unskilled worker can count on NOK 138,55 however, if he is under 18, he can count on NOK 108,15. The allowance for qualified employees is 11,75 NOK per hour of work.

Electric services and the fish industry

The Norwegian Labor Inspectorate has also set minimum hourly wages for electricians and people employed in the fish industry. Employees employed in providing companies electrical services can count on a minimum of 211,70 NOK (qualified) or na 184,36 NOK (other employees).

The rates in the fish industry also depend on your qualifications. If the employee has them, he will earn the least 192,20 NOK for an hour. Production workers can count on 180,70 NOK. Employees under the age of 18 can count on 80% minimum wage. From December 1, 2018, allowances for shift work were also introduced, which amount to:

  • 20% of the basic amount when working in two shifts,
  • 25% of the basic amount if the job is three-shift.

Wages in Norway - transport

Minimum wages in Norway also set up for those working as the driver. In the case of the carriage of goods the lowest hourly wage totals 171,45 NOK. This also applies to employed workers in foreign companies. However, it does not apply to the case where drivers are transporting towary manufactured by the company in which are employed.

In the case of transporting people the minimum rate is NOK 155,87. Also where employees are employed in foreign companies. Even in a situation where a given company sends an employee delegation for the purpose of providing benefits temporary services in Norway.

It concerns these sectors, in which the most foreigners work, including industry construction, electric, gastronomic, hotel, agricultural, fish etc. This knowledge is necessary - mainly in order to effectively protect yours employee rights, especially those related to receiving decent remuneration for the work performed.
