Most often, the unemployed cheated
Of the 968 cases, as many as 905 are reports of fraud relating to unemployment benefits or employee benefits. Most often, these were people who worked and earned money without informing Nav about it. Of course, they additionally received benefits to which they were de facto entitled. Director of Labor and Social Welfare Sigrun Vågeng tells ABC Nyheter that it is a serious offense when a person works and earns money and at the same time wants to take advantage of programs social assistance.
The number of frauds is decreasing year by year
According to Nav, the amount of fraud people perpetrated is declining with each passing year. This is because the office has more and more and better control methods and penalties can deter fraud. Thanks to digitization, the office is able to catch even the smallest offenses faster and faster, and this in turn allows them to deal with larger and more serious matters at a faster pace.
