The number of asylum seekers in Norway continues to decline. 2018 brought the lowest number of applications in over 20 years. Does this mean that fewer and fewer immigrants want to look for a safe place in Norway?

Asylum in Norway

TV 2 recently received data from the government of Erna Solberg on the statistics of asylum applications submitted in Norway. Analyzing and summarizing the obtained data, it turns out that more and more immigrants are applying for asylum in this country. In 2015 alone, such an application was submitted by as many as 30 people, but in 2018 the number was only 3054 applications.

It hasn't been that bad in 20 years

Number of asylum applications in Norway submitted in 2018 is the lowest since 1997. So far, there has been quite a lot of interest in asylum in Norway, but as you can see, the situation has changed. Taking into account the number of applications submitted in 2015, when it was 31,150, and three years later the number is only 3054, this shows an actual decline. Meanwhile, the decline is so large compared to 2017 number of asylum applications in Norway it dropped by as much as 14 percentage points.

The immigration policy is working

Data given to TV 2 by Erna Solberg's government for Norwegian politics are optimistic. They prove that immigration policy and its government restrictions are working. Additionally, the Minister of Justice, Tom Mikkel Wera, informs that the government has clearly stopped asylum immigration and the number of positively examined applications is also decreasing. In 2018 alone, it was lower by as much as 67 percentage points, taking into account the previous year. Summing up, out of 3054 applications submitted, only 1453 people were granted asylum.
