From January 1, 2020, Norwegians can become citizens of another country without losing their Norwegian citizenship, and foreigners will no longer have to give up their original citizenship to become a citizen of the country of the fjords. These changes are the result of the observation of the government and legal specialists of trends that are appearing in the world. It goes without saying that in our increasingly globalized world, many people are connected to more than one country. This trend is also noticed by Jan Tore Sanner, Minister of Knowledge and Integration. In his opinion, this is the main reason for the changes in the law that will enter into force after January 1, 2020 in Norway.

Last year, the Storting passed a government proposal to open up to dual citizenship.
