Employers who want to offer summer work to unemployed young people can now receive support from NAV. The target group of the summer work initiative is young people who have difficulty finding a job and need additional help. The program was announced in January this year. It was then that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs sent proposals for consultations on a new labor market instrument for young people. Last week they entered life regulations regarding program, and its operation will start on June 1.
The aim of this holiday initiative is to provide more people in this group with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience
- Young people have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Especially those who were out of work prior to the coronavirus pandemic are now even further in the queue. The aim of this holiday initiative is to provide more people in this group with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. It is also important to go a step further in the future and to better prepare for the labor market, says Director of Labor and Social Services, Hans Christian Holte.
This support means that the employer and NAV influence the young person's wages for an agreed period.
Employers interested in working together during the summer job may contact their local NAV office and counselor
On nav.no, you can find information about the summer job program, both on jobseekers 'websites and on employers' websites. There you can find a detailed description of who can participate, how to apply or how to act as an employer if you want to offer a summer job.
- Employers interested in collaborating on holiday work can contact their local NAV office and counselor. Contact information can be found at nav.no or you can call the employer's phone number, says Holte.

Subsidy from NAV. There is a growing demand for labor, even though the pandemic is hitting parts of the business community hard.
- There is a high demand for people in some industries and we hope there are many employers who will take this opportunity to give some of our young, motivated job seekers a chance. There may be many valuable competences and qualities that are not expressed in a regular CV, but that may emerge when meeting the relevant employer. It's about finding a good fit, and we at NAV will contribute to it, says Holte.
