After the easing of entry restrictions, the leisure traffic on the E6 Svinesund increased significantly, and the queue for many took up to five hours.

We are currently making a few changes to lighten the load and reduce the traffic jam

- This, of course, is not the same for the transport of goods, people who are going to work, have been at work or have made other necessary travel. In cooperation with the municipality of Halden, the Norwegian Public Road Administration and the Norwegian Customs Service. We are currently making a few changes to lighten the load and reduce the traffic jam. Several measures are also being considered, says Chief of Staff Jan Eivind Myklatun in the Eastern Police District.

The police will continue to control the entry of all travelers

It is clear that increased travel activity means there will be queues during peak times, but these measures will in particular shorten the waiting times for transporting goods and those who make the necessary journey.

- The police will continue to control the entry of all travelers. The regulations are extensive and complex and individual inspection can take a long time, especially if the traveler does not have the necessary documentation. Therefore, we recommend that all travelers read the regulations and take and prepare the necessary documentation before arriving at the border control. This will help improve the flow, he says.

Reducing queues at border control in Svinesund. Measures implemented:

– From Thursday 17/6, commuters living in Sweden can use the old Svinesund Bridge together with socially critical staff health service and care. This will likely result in less traffic na E6 and will reduce the queue for the transport of goods and other people who have made essential journeys. There was a big increase in commuting to old Svinesund on Friday morning, so the measure had an immediate effect.

- On Thursday, the police established a new waiting room after border checks (at the test station) for people going to quarantined hotels. This is to prevent travelers who have to wait for clarifications from blocking other traffic at border control.

- On Friday, the signage was changed to E6 (Norwegian side) towards border control to separate inbound traffic into two queues. The left lane leads to the green zone (normal travelers), while the right lane leads to the red zone (freight).

The police are in dialogue with the Swedish authorities

From Monday, June 21, the police will receive assistance from the National Guard in tasks related to the border mission at the state border. The police are in dialogue with the Swedish authorities in order to be able to separate the queue earlier on the Swedish side.

Travelers must remember to register before returning to Norway

Norwegian Public Roads Authority information boards on route E6 southbound through Follo and Østfold inform that travelers must remember to register before returning to Norway. Several measures are under consideration and will be implemented on an ongoing basis.
