Norwegian police keep driving licenses

The number of seizures of driving licenses in the last three years in June, July and August was 49% higher. than in the rest of the year.

Sun and summer, then it is often tempting to push a little more gas

- We do not know if more people are actually driving faster now, or if we have become even better at detection. But we still need more to go too fast and that is worrying, says boss Steven Hasseldal * Utrykningspolitiet (UP).

Many drivers lost their driving license last year

Last summer, police confiscated 2482 rights driving due to speeding. Over the past three years, an average of 686 driving licenses were confiscated per month during the summer months. In the remaining months, the average is 460.

"While it is opening up to more and more trips abroad, we know that many will spend the summer in Norway and then there will be many on the roads," says Hasseldal.

- We expect a lot of traffic, especially in the south in Sørlandet but also in the north towards Lofoten. So it is along these roads that we will prioritize our controls, says the head of the UP.

How fast do you have to go to lose your driving license when the speed is limited to:

-141 km/h

110 km/h

-151 km / h

If the speeding occurred as a direct result of careful overtaking, the situation is considered a bit milder (20-30% deduction). This does not apply if the speed was significantly higher than that required for careful overtaking or the motor vehicle, which was overtaken, was driving above the permitted speed.

Norwegian police keep driving licenses

Remember that if visibility is poor, slippery or other conditions have a negative impact affect driving conditions, losing your driving license can happen even at lower speeds. You can lose your driving license for a period ranging from a minimum of three months to several years. The police will certainly ask you if you consent to having your driving license confiscated. If you do not agree, you must submit your question to the district court for a decision within 3 weeks.

* Utrykningspolitiet (UP). The UP is a source of emergency assistance and preparedness for police districts and works to reduce the number of road accidents and offenses and contribute to combating other crimes.
