For four weeks, a woman in Agder waited for the restraining order to be processed. Then she was killed. Now the Agder Police are apologizing for the long handling time.

- We have adapted our procedures to ensure a faster assessment of the restraining order, says deputy police chief Arne Sundvoll in the newspaper The Friend of the Fatherland .

This happened after the mother of a young child, Cansel Godek, died last fall in her own home in Evje. A month earlier, she had reported her ex-boyfriend and asked not to come closer.

When the woman was stabbed, her request was still pending.

Police confirmed that they opened an internal investigation after the murder to assess how the woman's request could be processed more quickly.

"I wish we had changed our habits before this case," says Sundvoll.

Agder-Police plead guilty

He says Agder police have now determined that a lawyer must take a position on such a request within 24 hours and assess whether further investigation is necessary to resolve the request. Investigative steps must be completed within seven days. Previously, the instructions stated that the restraining order should be "dealt with as soon as possible."

The trial against the man who murdered his ex-partner is scheduled to begin in Agder District Court on October 11. There were three days for the case.
