Three preschool children were taken to hospital after a car ran over the gates of Haugesund's kindergarten.
The three children were sitting and playing when the incident happened, Sørvest Police said on Twitter on Monday. The condition of the injured children is currently unknown.
The police were notified of the incident at 13.14:XNUMX PM. Twelve minutes later it was recorded that the children had been taken to hospital.
- We were told that a car crashed in front of the kindergarten. He backed up towards a tree first and then drove with the gate into the kindergarten, says operations manager Kurt Løklingholm in the southwestern police district of the NTB.
It was not a high speed. Police are on site to keep the car safe from further investigation.
- The driver is on the place. We have control over it. We are talking to witnesses who are there, says Løklingholm.
The age of the children is unknown.
At 14.11, the police announce that the parents of the children have been notified and that the driver of the car is currently being looked after by medical staff.
At 15.30 the police left the kindergarten. It has been found that a technical investigation has been carried out and the matter will be investigated.
The driver of the car, who is described as an older man in his 70s, was taken to the emergency room. The police towed the car away for a technical investigation. The injured children were taken to Haugesund Hospital.
One child seriously injured
The condition of the two children is currently unclear. The operating officer reported that the third child was seriously injured, possibly with a broken bone. The condition should not be critical. Police do not currently have detailed information on children's health, but there should be no life-threatening injuries, reports Sørvest Police District on Twitter at 15.35.
