The tech giant is abusing its market dominance to force users to accept the company's terms. This has earned the company billions of user data revenues. While the users themselves get nothing, says Liza Lovdahl Gormsen, an expert on competition law.
Liza Lovdahl Gormsen Is Behind the Class Action Lawsuit against Facebook's parent company Meta. It is seeking compensation of at least £2,3 billion on behalf of everyone who used Facebook at least once between October 1, 2015 and December 31, 2019.
It is estimated that it is 44 million people.
Gormsen believes that during this period, Facebook collected data from both its own platform and other platforms such as Facebook Pixel, an advertising tool that can be used by third parties to monitor how people use their websites.
In the commentary to the lawsuit, the spokesman for Meta emphasizes that the use of Facebook is free.
- People decide to use our services. Because we deliver the product to them, and they have significant control over what information they share on Meta platforms and with whom. We've taken great strides to create the tools that make this possible.
