Still many closed roads

add to Favorites

Conditions are still demanding and many roads are closed in several places. The extreme weather of "Gyda" has left its clear traces.

Strong winds, floods and damaged roads also mean that many roads are still closed, especially in the northwest and in Trøndelag and Nordland. The harsh winter weather also creates difficult driving conditions on several mountain passes.

Track weather forecasts

- People still need to use their heads in the worst-hit areas. Track weather forecasts, check road reports on vegvesen.no, listen to the radio and follow what the media reports. We want people to arrive safely, says Nils Audun Karbø, responsible for traffic management and emergency preparedness at the Norwegian Public Roads Authority.

Even though the rain has ended, there is still a great danger of flooding and landslides, mud and flooding in several places.

Due to the weather forecast with rising winds, challenges in the road network and a lack of mobile coverage in some places in sensitive areas, this may not be the best weekend to travel to the mountains.

- There is great and hectic activity in many places to avoid eyesight and repair the damage from "Gyda". It is too early to say when the entire road network will be open. There are still some roads closed, says Ruth Myklebust of the Norwegian Public Road Administration.

- Our goal is to ensure that our roads are both passable and safe when they are reopened to normal traffic.

Myklebust, who is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the roads in central Norway, would like to thank both the employees, contractors of the Norwegian Public Road Administration and the drivers.

- Our employees and contractors have made an impressive effort in very demanding conditions. They were involved both in the preparations for "Gyda" during the extreme weather conditions and now in further work. Road users also contributed to the fact that everything went well during the ravages, says Myklebust.

Even though the worst weather is over, NVE expects there will be a lot of rain again this weekend. There are still many warnings about the dangers of the weather and accessibility in several places in Norway.
