The plant will produce liquid biogas that can supply fuel to trucks. The amount produced may be enough to travel 375 times around the ground, a total of 50 GWh of bio-LNG.

- This plant reduces greenhouse gases twice in a row. First, the raw material harvested from agriculture and fisheries is converted into biogas instead of becoming a source of emissions. As a result, for example, trucks or buses can run on biogas instead of regular diesel, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Bio waste can be used as fertilizer

The Renevo plant in Stord alone contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions by 4,4 tonnes per year. In addition to converting waste into biogas, CO2 is captured as a by-product of the process. This is the first time such a reactor has been connected to a CO2 capture system. Remarkably, CO2 is also used to make dry ice. Bio-waste is another residual product from biogas production that can be used as fertilizer instead of mineral fertilizer.

The target is a circular economy.

- We are transforming the Norwegian economy from a 'use and throw' economy to a circular economy. It is about an economy where as few resources as possible are wasted. Renevo is now making a very important contribution to Stord, says Gahr Støre.

Renevo received almost 50 million NOK support from the company Enova to build the plant and Innovation Norway provided loans to reduce the risk.
