Finanstilsynet proposes to prohibit additional benefits that the customer can only achieve by concluding a loan agreement or using an existing loan agreement.

The proposal means that if additional benefits are to be offered, they must also be offered to customers who wish to pay with debit solutions.

Finanstilsynet indicates in the consultation memorandum that such a ban will give consumers greater freedom of choice. Such a ban will also facilitate more informed, rational choices when taking out a loan. It will also contribute to a better one protecting vulnerable consumers, as the regulation increases awareness of credit conditions and the costs associated with using cards.

The benefits offered include: bonus points or the so-called cashback

Additional benefits are often offered when taking out and using unsecured loans such as credit cards. Examples are travel insurance and airline bonus points. Other offers also include discounts in stores and the so-called "Cashback", where the said benefits are obtained through the opening or use of a credit card.
