Big price increases for all drivers in Oslo.
From today, toll rates in the capital are increasing. This is to secure money, among others on Fornebubanen, the functioning of public transport and the reduction of car traffic.
It is electric cars that achieve the highest percentage price increase at toll stations around the greater Oslo agglomeration - almost threefold.
If you drive the inner ring in an electric car (off-peak), the price will increase from NOK 5 to NOK 14.
In the past, there has been a price differential between the three toll rings around Oslo, with a lower inner ring rate than the Oslo ring and the city boundary.
From today the price will be the same at all toll stations in Fjellinjen.
The highest fees for internal combustion cars
Although electric car drivers get the highest percentage price increase, those who drive internal combustion cars have to pay by far the most. For example, the non-rush hour gasoline car fare increases from NOK 18 to NOK 28 (inner ring and Oslo ring, without Autopass).
The same example for a diesel car increases from NOK 20 to NOK 32.
At peak times, you now have to pay NOK 37 for a diesel car or NOK 34 for a gasoline car. (inner ring and Oslo ring, no Autopass chip).
Tariffs are rising
This spring, Oslo municipality, Viken council and the state agreed on new rates road tolls. The Storting has set a zero car traffic growth target for Oslo and other major cities.
This requires large investments in the development of public transport as well as bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Several large projects are currently under construction in Oslo and Viken, such as Fornebubane and a new metro signaling system that will increase capacity.
The adopted tariff increase will provide the necessary financing for these and other projects. Rising prices in the construction market are also contributing to the increased demand for financing.
Tolls will also contribute to reducing car traffic. Electric vehicles are an increasing part of the car fleet, which is a welcome development on the part of the authorities.
This group of cars needs to be more profitable now. Tolls will also reduce car traffic in the city, and therefore also fares for electric cars will increase.
That's what tolls are for
Tolls in and around Oslo have several purposes:
- Reduce car traffic
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Increasing accessibility for all groups of road users
- Improving the urban environment
