New EU housing requirements are expected ahead of Christmas: - This could mean spending millions for Norwegian homeowners.
The EU is in the process of adopting new requirements for the energy efficiency of homes, which will mean multimillion-dollar investment in refurbishment for many Norwegian homeowners. A decision is expected before Christmas. "It's coming, it's hard to get around it." And it's going to take a lot from Norwegian homeowners, we're pretty sure.
EU REQUIREMENTS FOR HOUSEHOLDERS:
The EU must adopt a new directive on the energy efficiency of homes. In addition to the proposed requirements that from 2030 all new buildings must, inter alia, be emission-free buildings. Strict requirements are also proposed for the existing housing stock - i.e. Class D by 2033. About 1 in 4 Norwegian homeowners will be affected. That a decision will be made - and that it has an impact that quite a few Norwegian homes need to be energy efficient by 2030 or 2033 - is pretty obvious. This is Carsten Pihl speaking in Huseierne.
Housing costs have increased by 18 percent over the past year, according to a recent Huseierne report. They will increase by another 16 percent over the next year. In addition, lurking in the background is the new EU Energy Efficiency Directive, which experts fear could mean multi-million dollar costs for Norwegian homeowners.
The Council of the EU recently agreed on a draft revised directive on the energy performance of buildings. In addition to the proposed requirements that all new buildings must be zero emission buildings from 2030, strict requirements are also proposed for the existing housing stock – i.e. all types of private housing. One of the requirements is that all residential buildings have energy class D by 2033. By 2050, the entire building stock must be renovated into a zero-emission building.
– This is not a final decision, explains Pihl and Huseierne, but says that a final decision is expected before the new year.
There is no doubt that it will come and that it will have serious consequences for Norwegian homeowners.
