– Not everyone receives a tax notice at the same time. You will be notified by us when your tax return is ready and you do not need to log in to skatteetaten.no until you are notified, says tax director Nina Schanke Funnemark.

Tax authorities collected 60 million different pieces of information, including from employers, banks, municipalities and kindergartens. This information should be used on your tax return. But even if the tax administration has collected a lot of information, it is still your responsibility to complete your tax return before submitting it.

“The tax return is almost ready, but not quite there. While the Norwegian Tax Administration knows a lot about a person, we don't know everything. Your tax return may contain incorrect information about your finances, which you must enter yourself. Therefore, you need to check that the information on your tax return is correct and possibly make changes before delivery, says Schanke Funnemark.

6 out of 10 get a tax refund

Preliminary figures show that 2,9 million people qualify for tax credits. In total, they will share NOK 44,7 billion. On average, it is NOK 15.

900 is a residual tax totaling NOK 000 billion. The average amount is NOK 27,0.

Last year, the same figures showed that an average of 2,7 million people received a refund of NOK 10 on average, and one million people received an average of NOK 900 in back taxes.

Not sure about deductions? Use the deduction guide

Your tax return is the information you give the Revenue Office about your financial situation in 2022 that is important for tax purposes. Even if information such as income, assets, housing and debts have already been filled in, you need to check that they are correct. It is your own responsibility to ensure that the information is correct, and you must complete the information yourself that is not in the almost ready tax return.

- Changes in your life affect your taxes. Retirement, a change in income, less travel to the workplace, and changes in loan rates are all examples of changes that can make a difference, says Schanke Funnemark.

You may be entitled to deductions that were not pre-filled on your tax return. For example, if you are eligible for a travel deduction, you must enter it yourself.

– If you are not sure what deductions you can get and whether you can include them on your tax return, check out the deductions guide at skatteetaten.no, recommends Schanke Funnemark.

This year, the tax office launched two new guides on skatteetaten.no that will help you correctly tax the rental and sale of apartments. This is information you must enter on your tax return yourself.

You can find the guides here:  skatteetaten.no/bolig

You also need to enter some investments yourself on your tax return, such as cryptocurrency and values in other countries.

New tax information for entrepreneurs

All sole proprietorships must file a new self-employment tax return.

If you run a limited liability company, the rules for filing a tax return will change. Companies must file a new tax return through the accounting system or the annual settlement system. It's the system you use that determines whether you can use a new tax return this year or whether the company must deliver at Altinn as before.

However, until next year, you can't choose. After that, all companies must use the new tax return. Skatteetaten recommends that you start preparing now and check with your accounting or annual accounts system provider whether they support filing a new tax return.

Practical information about your tax return

The digital tax return for all employees and pensioners can be found at skatteetaten.no. A paper tax notice is sent out on various days between March 14 and March 31 for those who reserve the option to receive digital communications and others for whom the Swedish Tax Agency does not have electronic contact details.

Even if you receive a paper tax return, you can log in and submit it at skatteetaten.no.

If you have questions about your tax return, you can contact us by  skateetaten.no chat,  @skattenmin  on Facebook or by phone. On  www.skatteetaten.no  up-to-date information and guidance are available. You can find out what deductions you're entitled to by using the deduction guide at  skatteetaten.no/fradragsveileder

When will the tax money come?

Once you have checked, possibly changed and submitted your tax return, the Tax Office must process it and prepare a tax return. You will then know how much money you will get back (til gode) or how much more tax you will have to pay (restskatt).

Almost 9 out of 10 will receive their tax settlement by the end of June. Some get it earlier, while others get it between August and November. If you file your tax return before the April 30 deadline and have funds to pay back, you may receive your tax return earlier. When you are married, your spouse must also deliver before the due date and have money to pay back.

If you do not submit your tax return on time or you have tax arrears, you will receive your tax settlement in June at the earliest. Unfortunately, the tax authorities cannot tell you when you will receive your tax settlement. We'll send a message when it's ready.

There may be several reasons why some people receive their tax return later than others. We can't say anything about why exactly you haven't received yours, but there could be many reasons. From having a complicated tax return, as well as being selected for random checks, says Schanke Funnemark.

If you get a tax arrears, you must pay it by the fall. You will receive an invoice well in advance of the due date. If you see that you have tax arrears, you can pay it until May 31.
