Knowledge is the basis
We all know that when going on vacation, we should take sunscreen with us to prevent skin burns. We tell our children to wear hats when the sun's temperature is too high to avoid a stroke. We have become more aware of how to prevent the negative effects of the sun on our body, but do we really know why we are so defending ourselves against it?
Three types of radiation
Sunlight contains ultraviolet UV rays that affect our skin. The wavelength causes that we divide these rays into three types:
UVC- has virtually no effect on our skin because it is almost completely absorbed by the ozone layer
UVA - is responsible for the photoaging effect of the skin, penetrates into its deeper layers and damages collagen fibers. Radiation has been used in solar lamps because it stimulates the production of dye by melanocytes. Please note that it is not safe to use the solarium. It can lead to burns, cell damage, and with frequent visits, the likelihood of skin cancer developing increases.
UVB- it is this radiation that largely contributes to the formation of erythema after exposing our body to the sun. It is responsible for the effect of tanned skin and stimulates the production of vitamin D, which is responsible, among others, for our good mood and body resistance. UVB radiation makes our skin tanned, but too much exposure to our skin can lead to a cancer called melanoma.
. Effects of radiation
The sun, which we all love, unfortunately also has a very negative effect on us. So what can it cause?
- very serious burns which, especially at a young age, can lead to skin cancer
- cancer - remember that this effect can also be caused by excessive use of solar lamps. People who do not use any sunscreen cream are at a very high risk. The most common type of skin cancer is melanoma, which is difficult to treat.
- skin aging or photoaging. If any of you saw discoloration or sun spots on your skin, if you had the impression that it became dry and damaged, it was the effect of skin aging.
How to prevent
Many people know that when going to the beach you should take a sunscreen with you to prevent burns. But what then? Cosmetologists recommend that we use such creams all year round. Of course, the city's rays are not as strong as those on the beach, so we can afford a filter with less protection. Mineral filters are recommended because, unlike chemical filters, they reflect light, not absorb it. It is important to remember that winter sun rays are much stronger than summer sun rays, so it is very important to use sunscreen all year round.
