Otherwise, they may lose their jobs. Tightening requirements for refugees will be considered by politicians in the Storting in the fall. The originators clearly emphasize that this is a necessity. It is about changing the law enabling unemployed immigrants who have not learned Norwegian to receive social benefits.

There are still a very large number of immigrants who benefit from social welfare benefits and their job-seeking abilities are negligible. They prefer to use state benefits than learn Norwegian and, consequently, find a better job. The compulsory education would primarily apply to specific groups - asylum seekers and refugees who were granted the right to stay in Norway. It is worth noting that the changes will initially apply only to immigrants under 30 years of age, and only over time would the law be extended to other age groups.
