Facts about the murders in Norway in 2021

So far this year, police in Norway have launched an investigation into 14 murder cases with 14 victims - six women and eight men.

Kwiecień

April 13: Lawyer Tor Kjærvik is shot dead at his home in Røa, Oslo. The lawyer's 36-year-old son is charged with murder. He is also accused of the attempted murder of Kjærvik's partner. The prosecution believes that the murder investigation will probably result in an indictment of being transferred to compulsory psychiatric care.

April 20: Bård Lanes, 33, is found shot at Kilen in Tønsberg and dies shortly thereafter in hospital. Three men, a 26-year-old, a 29-year-old, and a 31-year-old, are charged with the murder or complicity in the murder. Police believe the 26-year-old fired the shot that killed Lanes.

April 22: Renate Strand Normann, 42, is found dead outside in Varaldsøy, Kvinnherad. A 47-year-old man is charged with the murder but claims to have provided first aid. The deceased and the accused are referred to by the police as friends.

April 28: Fevziye Kaya Sørebø (50) is shot dead at the Tostrups gate on Frogner in Oslo just before 8.30. A 39-year-old man, who has been in a legal dispute with Sørebø, is charged with the murder. The 39-year-old pleads guilty.

May

May 3: A man in his forties is stabbed and killed in an apartment in downtown Halden at 22pm. The man's 47-year-old sister is accused of murder and pleads guilty.

May 6: Aud Opsahl (88) is found shot dead in his home in Lyngdal. 59-year-old son the woman was arrested and charged with murder. According to a psychiatrist, the 59-year-old may have been insane when the murder occurred.

* May 15: Stig Ola Westgård, 56, is found dead in the morning at an apartment in Lademoen, Trondheim. A 56-year-old man is detained on the spot and placed under arrest two days later on a charge of murder.

May 15: A 20-year-old man is stabbed in an apartment in Tøyen, Oslo, and dies from his injuries five days later. A 33-year-old foreigner is arrested the next day, then charged with murder and placed under arrest. The accused had previously been convicted of violence.

June 8: Marianne Hansen (25) was found killed in her apartment in Hellerud, Oslo. A 30-year-old man from Romania confessed to the murder. The man died at Ullevål Hospital on Friday 16 July after attempting to take his own life in prison.

June 13: A 19-year-old man dies in hospital after he was found with stab wounds in Sandefjord on the night of Sunday June 13. Two men, an 18-year-old and a 26-year-old, were arrested and charged with the murder or complicity in the murder. All three are from Eritrea.

July

July 19: A 39-year-old man is shot dead at the Tordenskiolds Gate at Oslo City Hall. He is rushed to the hospital but dies shortly afterwards of his injuries. Police arrest a 41-year-old man on the spot. Both men are childhood friends, according to a murder suspect's attorney, who says the man confesses and pleads self-defense at the same time.

August

August 1: Vladas Kvederys (57), a Lithuanian national, is found dead at home in Lørenskog shortly after midnight on Sunday 1 August. According to the police, the Lithuanian died of bleeding after a stab wound. A 45-year-old Polish citizen who lived in the house was charged with murder and the next day he was detained for four weeks, not visiting. The man pleads not guilty.

September

September 12: A 23-year-old woman is found badly injured after a violent incident in an apartment block in Åsane, Bergen on Sunday, September 12. A 29-year-old man is arrested and charged with attempted murder. The next day, the man is arrested. Five days later, the woman dies of her injuries and the 29-year-old is charged with murder.

September 20. Two Nav workers are stabbed during a meeting in Årstad, Bergen In monday morning. One of them, a woman in her fifties, died shortly thereafter in hospital from her injuries. The second, a woman in her thirties, was slightly injured. A man in his thirties was arrested at the scene. He was charged with murder and grievous bodily harm.
