Sugar - a silent killer

Sugar is a substance that is comparable to alcohol and drugs in a person's addiction. It wreaks havoc on our body. Today, more and more is said about its negative impact on our lives, but we can still get it in any store.

Why do we like him so much?

Sugar is present in our life since childhood. Juices, drinks, sweets, but also bread, pasta, flavored water, ketchup and many, many other products contain it. Today it is difficult to buy a food product that does not contain sugar or its substitute, such as a sweetener (not healthier at all). Sugar works similarly to a drug, it becomes quickly addictive. Delivering it to our body stimulates the production of serotonin and dopamine, which improves our well-being. Not only is sugar tasty, it also makes us happy for a short time.

Effects of sugar consumption

It has a very negative effect on our body. The number of side effects is terrifying. A few below:

- causes the accumulation of fat around the abdomen,
- reduces the functioning of the immune system,
- accelerates the aging process,
- our organs become greasy,
- leads to the development of certain types of cancer, heart disease, worsens the condition of our skin,
- causes mood disorders.

Daily dose

The World Health Organization, as you can read on its official website, recommends that the daily dose of sugar consumption should be limited to 10% of the daily energy requirement, which is 12 teaspoons per day (one teaspoon a day is about 4 g).

How can I get rid of it?

If we are addicted to sugar, stopping it abruptly can be difficult for us, and our body may not accept it well. At the very beginning, we should start avoiding processed foods, which are plentiful on store shelves. Then you should read the composition of each product purchased by us and watch the daily recommended dose of sugar. An important thing that should be introduced is to change eating habits, e.g. stop drinking carbonated drinks, and switch them to water. Of course, as in everything, we should know moderation and eating a chocolate or a bar from time to time will not be a bad thing, as long as we take care of our body on a daily basis without giving it too much sugar.
