Naturalness is in fashion. The body as a battlefield

add to Favorites
  • Each of us strives for self-acceptance. However, we struggle with the images of the perfect body, which is full of all around us. The fight, however, should have been averted a long time ago, because it is without tons of makeup, without clothes that mask the mascara and without photo corrections, that we are ourselves. It's time to understand that naturalness is in fashion.

Times of complexes

Summer time has passed. With him, too, the embarrassment of undressing on the beach and showing up in his bathing suit passed. The fear of judging us is greater than what we think about ourselves. We find many disadvantages, an infinite number of defects, because we are too fat here, something stands out here, and the woman from the cover has such a beautiful body that we are far from. The times of complexes have caught us, because as many as 63 percent of the surveyed women from eleven countries feel the pressure of the race for the perfect body (Philips Global Beauty Index 2017).

Barbara Kruger- Your body is a battlefield

The outstanding feminist and her poster with the slogan "Your body is a battlefield" is already a classic. The poster was created in 1989 for a demonstration on the fight for women's rights in Washington. It was placed in Warsaw only 6 years later in the context of discussions on women's rights to abortion. Today, many years have passed since the presentation of the famous poster for the first time, but its slogan is still on the top. The cult of fighting imperfections and the race where the prize for first place is "perfect body" is a constant struggle. We fight the pressure of the environment, which are not only the media, but also acquaintances, family, friends and famous people.

We say enough! Naturalness is in fashion!

Constant struggle, pressure, eternal dieting, backbreaking exercises at the gym make you rebel and we say enough about it more and more often. Philips research shows that over 90 percent of respondents say that there are many ways to be beautiful. How much we weigh and what we look like cannot mean that we are worse or ugly.

The body positive movement

He was born in 1996. The two founders, Connie Sobczak and Elizabeth Scott, joined forces and created a movement that aims to encourage self-acceptance. Nowadays, his goal has returned with a double strength, because the need for acceptance among young people, but not only, is very great. Building faith in the slogan that naturalness is in fashion has never been as important as it is today.

Plus size models

After many advertising campaigns, posts by famous people, and films that appeared in the media, fashion designers themselves also stepped into the fight against naturalness and self-acceptance. They are one of the parties that once drove people to want to have an "ideal" body. Currently, on the catwalks, we can also meet plus size models who do not stand out with their beauty from friends who wear smaller sizes than them. The most famous model who endorses the body positive message is Ashley Graham. The girl can be considered a role model because despite her weight, she proudly walks the runway of the best fashion designers in the world.
