A Polish employee in Norway is like that with us in the eyes of Norwegian Tonja
We, Poles, like to talk about ourselves as a hardworking nation. We work a lot, we are committed, loyal and we do not require much in return. But is it really so? Who is a Polish worker in the eyes of a Norwegian? We asked Tonje, a Norwegian woman who met Polish workers on her way.
- Poles are the largest group of immigrants in Norway, so sooner or later most Norwegians come into contact with a Polish worker. In which industry did you meet the Poles?
- During my apprenticeship in Stavanger, I met one Polish woman. I was in my second year of college, she was starting her first. We learned something like "service and transport" - then you can work in a store, office or security. We worked together during this practice for a year.
Polish employee in Norway - Did you feel something significant? differences at work between Norwegians and Pole?
- Not at all. There was no difference between my job and that of my Polish friend. We both did a good job and passed the practice. My brother also once worked with Poles and praised their cooperation.
– And nowz question unrelated to work. A Pole abroad is labeled a thief, a road pirate, and an alcohol enthusiast. Will you confirm or deny?
- I will only speak from my own experience. I think Poles are good workers. When I was younger and we renovated something in our house, we renovated or repaired it, we always hired Polish builders. They have a good reputation, work hard and are honest in their work. We have never been disappointed with them.
Polish worker in Norway. Cooperation with mutual benefits
Tonje's experience with Poles is positive. Even though Poles often have their own "habits" that are incomprehensible to Norwegians - for example, they drink beer before noon or drive more aggressively - Polish employee seems to be appreciated in Norway. It cannot be denied that it is often more profitable for a Norwegian to employ a Pole. For the lowest domestic wage, he will undertake hard work that Norwegians often reject, such as cleaning or construction. Despite many cultural differences, our two nations seem to coexist to the benefit of both sides.
