On behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Norwegian Public Roads Authority is currently submitting proposals for tightening the safety requirements for buses for consultation. The new safety requirements follow on from the recommendation of the Accident Investigation Commission for Accidents in Norway. All this to increase safety in buses in the event of a collision.

The reinforced structure of the front will improve safety

The proposal that is currently being sent out for consultation concerns the reinforcement of the front structure of the bus. In this way, the bus will be better protected against deformation in a frontal collision. This also means the driver will be much less likely to suffer serious injuries.

The new safety requirements may apply to buses registered from next year.
