As a consumer, have you received an electricity bill that is not in accordance with your electricity contract? Or maybe it happened to you that the energy company broke the contract you made with them? Then the Electricity Appeals Board (Elklagenemnda) can help resolve your case.
If you want to make a complaint about your bill, or if you believe that the energy company is breaking a contract you have entered into, you must first complain directly to the energy company. If you disagree with the utility company, you can appeal to Electricity Appeals Committee.
Elklagenemnda handles complaints between consumers and energy companies. It can also adjudicate on claims for damages. This could be relevant, for example, if the energy company canceled a fixed-price contract with you during the term of the contract and you lost money because of it.
How to make a complaint:
- Always file a written complaint with the utility company first.
- If you do not agree, you can write to Elklagenemnda, by post or e-mail.
- Explain what happened and what you want to complain about. Attach copies of all letters and messages between you and the energy company and all other important documents in the case.
- If you receive a bill that you believe is incorrect and the bill is sent to a collection agency, it is important to dispute the bill with a collection agency. If you have already made a complaint to Elklagenemnda, you should inform the utility company and possibly a debt collection company.

Unfortunately, the processing time at Elklagenemnda is up to one year. However, it is worth submitting a complaint / complaint there, because often the alternative will be a court case against the electricity supplier.
