– The results show that Norwegian scientists and other players are doing well in the difficult and prestigious international competition. So far, Norwegian scientists and companies competed for almost NOK 5 billion from the EU. I am incredibly proud of the effort and results, says Minister of Research and Higher Education Ola Borten Moe.

Horizon Europe is the world's largest research and innovation program with a budget of EUR 95,5 billion for 2021-2027. The ambition of the Norwegian participants is to bring home 2,8 percent of the money that Horizon Europe allocates. According to the new data, we have imported 3,35 percent so far.

So far, Norwegian institutes, universities, colleges, companies, sector health service as well as the public sector received subsidies of CZK 4,9 billion under the Horizon Europe program.

Internationalization of Norwegian research

Participation in Horizon Europe is one of the most important tools for the internationalization of Norwegian research. Collaboration contributes to the development of quality because it gives access to expertise. It also gives access to new markets and infrastructure that we can hardly access through national programmes. Norway participated in the cooperation in the same way as other EU countries and increased its share of research funding year by year. So far, Norway has brought home more money from Horizon Europe than we have paid in participation fees.

Access to research and innovation worth NOK 35 billion

– The project with Norwegian participants provides access to research and innovation worth NOK 35 billion. Consolidating our position in the international arena is important for our competitiveness and decisive for Norway's capabilities to adapt. It is through research and innovation that we create sustainable societies, says Industry Minister Jan Christian Vestre.
