Climate change and the Amazon. We have been watching forests burning for a long time. Siberia, now Amazonia. “The lungs of the world are on fire.” Unfortunately, to a large extent, we, the people, are to blame for this situation. The world's appetite for beef, soy and palm oil means that Brazil continues to generate really high profits. This country is in a bad economic situation - that is why it exports, among others, soybeans and beef. Increasing logging and rainforest fires will only worsen the situation.
Climate change and the Amazon - what are the experts saying?
“Brazilian President Bolsonaro gives permission to burn and cut down. This is not happening due to official permits, but controls have been waived and the number of penalties for such activities has decreased. Business wins. The land is then used for crops and cattle grazing. Nobody thinks about ecology."- Wojciech Doroszewicz from the Terra Brasilis Foundation for the money.pl portal

The issues of the Brazilian economy are not without significance here. Brazil continues to be the world's largest beef and poultry exporter. When it comes to soybeans, maize and reeds are among the top three. However, production is declining due to the lack of new pasture and land for cultivation. Similar fires are occurring in Bolivia, Venezuela, Paraguay and Argentina.
Climate change and the Amazon - this is already a global problem ...
Climate change and the Amazon. Fires spread more and more. And it is the Amazon Forest that produces 20 percent. the oxygen we breathe. We cannot forget about the inhabitants of the jungle - it is home to approx. 400 indigenous tribes, approx. One million people and approx. Three million species of animals. The more forest fires there are, the more there will be a shortage of tap water. Fires emit greenhouse gases.
Scientists say with one voice: “A climate catastrophe is beginning. It won't get better." Climate will soon become the main topic of G7 and G20 meetings. We have to do something about it. Start thinking globally - about the here and now, but also about the future: ours and the future generations that will come after us.
