Extremely high revenues mean Statnett sets the consumer tariff to zero from April 1 through the end of the year. This means that in 2022 Norwegian electricity users and industry will receive an almost four billion reduction in transmission rent.
- Although we had high prices in Norway recently, trade with other countries has brought a lot of income from both energy imports and exports. Norwegian consumers will benefit from a discount of almost four billion. From April XNUMX, we will set the consumption tariff to zero, says CEO Hilde Tonne at Statnett.
When trading energy overseas, the individual producer pays the price that is within his territory, while industry and other consumers pay the price in the area where he consumes the energy. The difference in price between these areas is the so-called a revenue bottleneck and goes to the owner of the infrastructure. Connections between Norway and neighboring countries are owned by Statnett with its partner on the other side.
The tariff, which is Statnett's share of the rent from the network for 2022, was set on October 1 and already took into account the high expected revenues. At the same time, the extraordinary situation on the European energy market caused the revenues to become very large. Revenues for 2021 reached a record level of 5,6 billion. Forecasts now show that they will be much higher in 2022 and will be at least seven billion in a year. Already in January, revenues from revenue bottlenecks exceeded NOK 1,4 billion.
- High revenues from revenue bottlenecks will keep the tariff lower than expected in the coming years. These revenues cover expenses that we would otherwise have to collect from the network rent. The revenue also contributes to Statnett's promise to facilitate electrification and new investments of up to $ 100 billion over the next ten years, says CEO, Hilde Tonne at Statnett.
Statnett is the owner and operator national energy transmission network in Norway. Several large industrial customers are directly connected to this network and will receive tariff relief directly from Statnett. Most businesses and end users are connected to the network by regional and local network owners.
The reduction will benefit network customers
Statnett has a good dialogue with both network companies and regulators on how to deal with this. It is the responsibility of the individual network companies to ensure that this change is now communicated to end users. Statnett assumes that the reduction will benefit network customers as quickly as possible.
