The European Athletics Championships in Berlin are underway. So far, the Poles have won 5 medals, including three gold and two silver, thanks to which they are at the forefront of the overall classification. The second place is taken by players from Great Britain (3 medals - 2 gold and 1 silver), and the third from Germany (1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze). The competition will run until Sunday, August 12, and a lot can happen!

Hammer throw - Polish domination!

On August 7, at 18:45, the hammer throwing competition started. Two Poles - Paweł Fajdek and Wojciech Nowicki - made it through the qualifications. After the competition, it was these players who took the two highest steps on the podium - the gold was won by Wojciech Nowicki, and the silver was won by Paweł Fajdek.

On the same day at 20:33 the men's shot put final began. Michał Haratyk and Konrad Bukowiecki performed in them. As it turned out, also in this discipline our athletes turned out to be unrivaled. The gold was won by Michał Haratyk, and the silver was won by Konrad Bukowiecki.

The phenomenal Paulina Guba

Paulina Guba represented Poland in the shot put. She went to Berlin after a phenomenal season, during which - as she says herself - she dealt with her psyche and has never trained so hard before. The effects are clearly visible - after the exciting final competition in the women's shot put on Wednesday at 20:30 she obtained the best result. Thus, she overtook the German favorite to gold - Cristina Schwanitz. The second Pole - Klaudia Kardasz was also close to the podium. Ultimately, however, she lost the competition for the third place with Belarusian Aliona Dubistkaya.

Polish performances with controversy in the background

Polish players went to Berlin after achieving the minimum in the previous competition. Some controversies, however, are related to the Polish javelin thrower - Marcelina Witek. On this year's European lists, the Pole is listed with the second result of 66,53 meters, which she obtained in May this year. Later, however, she struggled with a shoulder injury, which contributed to the deterioration of the obtained results. However, this did not prevent her from winning the championship title in the July Polish Championships. However, she threw more than 10 meters closer - 55,97 meters.

This year's results were the minimum that theoretically allowed Marcelina Witek to perform in this year's European Championships in Berlin. The PZLA board made one decision not to report the Polish javelin thrower. The official reason is the shoulder injury the player is struggling with. The decision is supported by Tomasz Majewski, but the whole situation echoed loudly in the sports environment and not everyone agrees with the union.

The European Championship will run until Sunday

We will be able to watch Polish players until August 12, which will be the last day of the competition. You can read the full schedule on the official website of the competition: Berlin2018.info.
