The Norwegian Institute of Public Health published an entry on its website: "There is a strong suspicion that a resident of Akershus municipality of Nes has measles." Nettavisen asked Lars Gullestad for an opinion – general practitioner and general director of the clinic Colosseumklinikken Medisinske Senter in Oslo. His answer is as follows:

“When it comes to measles, we depend on the degree to which society is vaccinated. If more than 95 percent of the population is vaccinated, this helps to avoid measles outbreaks. But if more and more citizens choose not to vaccinate their children, then of course society as a whole will suffer the consequences. "

Measles - what is worth knowing?

Measles is transmitted by airborne droplets. Infection also occurs through contact with discharge from the nasopharynx or with the patient's urine. The first symptoms appear after 10-14 days. At first, we may not notice the first symptoms of infection.

Symptoms of measles infection?

  • fever,
  • intense cough (dry),
  • severe sore throat
  • runny nose,
  • redness of the eyes and sensitivity to light,
  • a face like after hours of crying.

Some symptoms may be mistaken for the flu. However, you should be vigilant and not underestimate even the smallest problems.
