Lublin - the city of onion rings and the beautiful Old Town. Lublin is a fascinating city, full of contrasts, with an amazing atmosphere. Although it is one of the oldest cities in Poland and recently celebrated its 700th anniversary, it surprises with its openness and how it can combine the old with the new. There are many surprises hidden in the vast green space. Discover them one by one and see for yourself that Lublin ... is likeable.

Lublin - a city of bulbs and extraordinary architecture

In the very center there is an unusual and surprising building - the Royal Castle with a round tower, the so-called A keep that once served as a defense and residential area. You will find there, among others the chapel of the Holy Trinity with magnificent frescoes, the Lublin Museum and the art gallery with Matejko's "Union of Lublin". From the Castle it is only a stone's throw to the Market Square - the imposing Grodzka Gate leads to it, one of the two surviving gates in the defensive walls. The ruins that you pass on the way are the remains of the foundations of the Church of St. Michael, well arranged for various performances, meetings and cultural events.

What's worth seeing in Lublin?

Fall in love with beautiful tenement houses

In the old part of the city, the eye is drawn to historic tenement houses, both the restored and the older ones, whose windows have small works of art, often making up a larger, intriguing whole. In the very center of the small, intimate market square stands the historic town hall, and below it - the underground, which can be visited, and even worth visiting with a professional guide, who will tell you about about a fire that consumed a large part of the city years ago.

For those who like to see more and more broadly, the Trinitarian Tower will be a must have, which, after descending 200 steps, will reward you with a wonderful panorama of the entire city. Right next to the tower, there is the largest church in the city - the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. After descending from the tower, it is worth crossing the Krakow Gate and taking a look at Krakowskie Przedmieście, so named because of the road from Lublin to Krakow that once ran here. If you are lucky, you can come across the stands of the Jagiellonian Fair or the Festival of Tastes.

Lublin - where is it worth going?

Where else for a walk?

From Krakowskie Przedmieście, it is just a step to Litewski Square and the fountains, which enchant with a riot of colors in the evening. You can then sit down for a while and taste a local delicacy - fluffy onion, which is even dedicated to a special museum. Those eager for spiritual experiences can also follow the trail of Lublin's street art - colorful murals provoke reflection at almost every step.

Lublin with history in the background ...

If we are already reflecting, it is worth thinking for a moment about the history of Lublin Jews, who before the Second World War constituted almost one third of the city's population. They left inscriptions on the walls, memories, cubes in the pavement, as well as a line showing where the Lublin ghetto was. It is also worth commemorating their memory at Majdanek near Lublin.

Taste the regional beer ...

It is easy to forget for a moment in one of the charming pubs that boldly take over more and more public spaces, pavements and courtyards. It is worth visiting the Devil's Paw or Perlowa, where the local Perła beer is poured, and the guests sit at the round bar with a large mirror above them. You can feel the breath of history here, and at the same time the breath of the future ... in which you are probably already planning your next visit to Lublin. Maybe it will be the Magician Festival, famous all over Poland?
