The airline stops most flights since March 21 and has to cut 90 percent of its workforce in response to the impact Coronavirus.

After nearly all of its planes are grounded, Norwegian has to lay off more than 7300 workers, or 90 percent of the workforce.

It includes pilots, cabin crew, as well as administrative and maintenance personnel.

The airline also decided to cancel 85% of its flights.

Really heavy-hearted, we have to lay off more than 7300 of our colleagues, but unfortunately we have no choice. However, I would like to emphasize that this is temporary, until the world returns to normal. My goal is to keep as many of our dedicated associates as possible, as Norwegian CEO Jacob Schram said.

Norwegian sends on permittering Facing the crisis

In today's report, Norwegian presents. From March 21, they will fly mainly with a shortened route plan in Norway and between the Nordic capitals. They will operate "some" European flights. All intercontinental flights will be canceled (except for flights between Scandinavia and Thailand).

These restrictions will be in place until April 17 and will be reviewed regularly in line with the travel restrictions introduced, the company said.

“What our industry is struggling with is unique and critical. We are approaching a scenario where most of our planes are temporarily grounded, ”says Schram.

Several governments in Europe have already said they will do whatever they can to ensure that their airlines can fly when things are back to normal. We understand that the authorities in Norway have advised that they will take all necessary measures to secure aviation in Norway and thus provide important infrastructure and jobs, he continues.

Norwegian stresses that they have already canceled a significant portion of their planned flights and that bringing their compatriots home this week will be a priority.

"The company will also work closely with the authorities to arrange emergency flights if necessary," says a Norwegian report.
