Here are the government's recommendations ahead of Christmas
You can have up to ten guests for a maximum of two days during Christmas and New Years Eve.
It is emphasized that ten guests are in addition to the number of people who already belong to the household.
- It was not easy to find the right balance. We live in a different life, with different family patterns and constellations. Christmas is a time of closeness, not distance, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg during today's press conference.
"But we also don't want to start the new year with rising infection rates and new austerity measures," she continued before announcing the measures that will apply at Christmas.
Here are the government's recommendations:
- You still need to limit the total number of people you socialize with throughout the period and especially in the run-up to Christmas.
- The government maintains its recommendation that you can accept up to 5 guests during the New Year.
- It is open to a maximum of 10 guests for two days. This means up to 10 guests on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve or two other days that you choose during this period.
- There must always be a distance of at least one meter between all who otherwise do not live together. This is true both when you are sitting at the table and when gifts are being given out.
- If you are unable to hold a Christmas party with at least one meter between them, then you should invite fewer guests.
- If you come from highly infected areas you should keep a distance of 2 meters from those at risk.
"With these recommendations, we mean that it will be a great free time for most people, although it may be a little different to what we're used to," says Solberg.
We discourage foreign travel
The government does not want mass trips abroad for Christmas.
- Christmas is not the time to go abroad, unless you really have to. We know that many people usually use Christmas to visit families living in other countries, says the prime minister.
- I'm worried that those who go on a trip bring an infection with them. Therefore, I would like to strongly remind you of the quarantine rules. They will be in effect after Christmas, and it is extremely important that people who think they need to leave follow and follow the instructions.
In addition, the prime minister encourages the inclusion of those known to be lonely during Christmas and Advent, for example by talking on the phone or walking together. It also says that children and adolescents with divorced parents should have normal contact with both parents during the celebration of Christmas.
Health Minister Bent Høie says the figures indicate the infection is stopping, but warns of laxity about the recommendations.
"I wasn't sure how we could suppress the second wave as the infection also increased in this country." The numbers show that together we can do it again and get over it again, says Høie.
- The infection in society is still too high for us to bring everyone back to normal. He says we must continue to keep our distance.
From next week, the FHI will be providing weekly risk assessments at the county level, says Høie. This will enable counties and municipalities to work together to find appropriate measures taking into account the local situation.
