This is not the first time Cynthia Verazie (18) has been singing on TV. She is already a star in Greece, but she did not like the attention that was focused on her.

On Friday's episode, The Voice is ready for the penultimate round of duels, in which the 12 contestants again have to compete and fight to get into the vocal competition.

Among them is 18-year-old Cynthia Verazie from Cyprus, who during the interrogation she didthat all four judges turned .

Reaction and choice

- I didn't expect it at all. I didn't think I'd go to the blind auditions one day. So when all the mentors turned around, I was very happy. In the end, I chose Espen Lind as my mentor.

Young talent

Verazie, who was originally christened Cynthia Veronica Zietara, changed her name when she came to Norway as a 15-year-old. She was born and raised in Cyprus where she attended an international Catholic school with strict rules, school uniforms and teaching in four languages.

Singing and music at the same time shaped her life from an early age. Cynthia started playing the piano at the age of 5. At the age of 6, she began taking singing lessons.

Despite her young age, Verazie has gotten used to standing on stage and appearing in front of television cameras.

As a 14-year-old, she took part in the headhunted program of the Rising Star talent contest in Greece. During the approximately three-month-long competition, as a 14-year-old, she traveled over 100 miles a week to participate in live shows before reaching the semi-finals.

The young talented Cynthia, on the other hand, never had the purpose of participating in talent contests to prove himself or win a contract.

- The reason I went to all these competitions was because I wanted to be more confident, because I struggled so much to be on stage and look people in the eye. I was very modest, so I just needed to be on stage and gain experience, she says.

Bad "Idol" experience

In 2018, Verazie moved to Norway with her parents and younger brother, after her mother, who works in the oil industry, was offered a job in Oslo. The family has been living in Drammen ever since.

It didn't take long before Golden Throat enrolled in the next vocal competition - namely Idol in 2018 .

On the other hand, she thinks it was not a particularly good experience.

- I went to the first auditions and then I don't know what happened. At first the judges were very positive and in the second hearing they just kicked me out, so it was very strange - he says and emphasizes that there were a few things that made the competition a challenge.

- I didn't know the language because I was so new in Norway, so communicating was a bit difficult and it wasn't the best experience.

She will be an opera singer

Today Cynthia speaks almost fluent Norwegian and is a student at the Edvard Munch in Oslo. She is now also a participant in The Voice, which she signed up for after a friend reported her on social media.

However, the goal of participating in TV 2 is still not to become a pop star. Cynthia Verazie has a career plan ready.

- I'm going to study opera. That's what I do, but that's not what I'm showing in The Voice. I have been studying and singing opera since I was 13, but only last year with a professional teacher - he says.

The 18-year-old loves opera and says she had a special wish when the family first visited Oslo.

- What is so beautiful about Norway is that it is such a beautiful opera house. It was the first thing I wanted to see when I came here. We don't have a famous opera house in Cyprus so haven't been to opera before. I was crying.

– A little sad

Verazie decided not to include the opera in The Voice contest. And while none of the mentors on the show has any special experience with the opera genre, the 18-year-old is very pleased with Espen Lind's choice as mentor.

- A bit different, but Espen is very good at music. He has so much experience so I think it's amazing.

I'm glad that she likes different genres of music and thinks that broadening your horizons could bring more.

- We don't play opera at a talent show, and I think it's okay. I love having many different perspectives and I feel a bit sad when musicians can't listen to both classical and popular music.

A duel for voices

In Friday's episode, Cynthia Verazie will face Benedicte Årving to fight for a spot in the knockout round on The Voice.
