Trysil municipality has banned the use of a residential building in the city center due to poor fire protection. Leaving the building will not happen immediately.

The municipality believes that fire safety in a building with 18 apartments is so poor that life in it is dangerous.

Mayor Erik Sletten (Sp) tells NTB that this doesn't mean people have to leave the building immediately.

"It will happen as soon as practicable," he says.

The ban was issued on the basis of documentation and a fire brigade inspection report. And a report from a professional fire adviser to Firesafe AS, according to a press release from the municipality.

- The sum of all detected deviations represents both an immediate danger of loss of life and extremely large material consequences in the event of a fire in the building, writes the Midt-Hedmark rescue and fire service in a letter to the municipality.

There is a knock on the door

Because the letter of prohibition of use was sent digitally after working hours, and city officials believe it is urgent to relocate people. The head of department himself knocked on all doors to ensure that the information reached everyone quickly.

- We have also notified the housing cooperative, which is aware of the disturbing reports, and we expect residents to contact each other.

The municipality can see that the residents of Pernup, as the building is called, may have practical problems finding new accommodation in such a short time, but they must do so as soon as possible without delay.

- Having the documentation we have, as a commune we can no longer take responsibility for the people living there. That's why the ban was introduced with immediate effect and we hope people get out soon, says Poulsen.

. Residents receive help

From Tuesday morning, the commune will launch an aid apparatus that will both help you find places to move to and help you actually relocate.

If someone has been so taken up by the issue presented by the municipality, which described the building as highly flammable and life-and-health-threatening, and wants to leave as early as Monday evening, the municipality will conduct a dialogue with him on the subject. This is Mayor Erik Sletten (Sp) speaking.

- Today we started looking for alternative housing and we will continue it from 8 o'clock tomorrow morning - says the mayor of NTB.

During the inspection

Boligsameiet engaged Firesafe AS to investigate fire safety. Their report states that the building has some basic and serious fire safety deficiencies and deficiencies. Overall, this level of safety is much lower than the minimum requirements of the building regulations.

The municipality will now investigate the matter and, inter alia, consider revoking the certificate of completion.

- We asked for help from Norconsult. Until the report before them is available, we will not comment further. We express a genuine concern for fire safety. The life and health of the inhabitants are important to us, so we had to act now, says Paulsen.
