The national authorities have decided that all electricity consumers in Norway will receive the new network lease model from 1 July 2022The aim of the change is smarter use of electricity and more efficient use of our power grid in order to save money and protect nature..

We must use electricity more wisely

The aim of the new network lease model is to enable the best use of the transmission network and a more equitable distribution of costs among consumers. The lease of the electricity grid will provide an incentive to use the grid efficiently, which over time will result in lower grid costs for electricity consumers, less interference with nature and less conflict related to grid development, says Oil and Energy Minister Terje Aasland.

The new rent from the network will reward customers who equalize consumption and reduce the "peaks" of electricity consumption.

Good tips

There are many things you can do to accommodate your new network rental model, and one of the best tips is to charge your electric car at night, for example. Another way to save money is to reprogram the time settings on radiators and thermostats. However, the most important thing is not to use all the energy-intensive devices at the same time.

The novelty is that the power link will have a different price day and night. The price will be lower at night. The new model will make it more profitable to equalize the energy consumption, without affecting the comfort and safety at home. The day is the time between 06:00 and 22:00, and the night between 22:00 and 06:00 in the morning. It is also cheaper on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays

  • Capacity link - monthly amount depending on how much energy you use at the same time
  • Power connection - amount per kilowatt hour which is cheaper at night than during the day

What is a capacitive link

It is determined by the hours you use the most energy at the same time. If you balance your electricity consumption during the day, you will get a lower capacity link than if you use a lot of electricity at the same time. A step-by-step model for computing the capacitance link was developed. The average of the three hours with the highest consumption in the previous month (on three different days) will determine where you end up.

What is an energy link

It depends on how much total energy you use (kilowatt hours) and when you are using the power. You pay less per kilowatt hour at night than during the day. Some companies will also have lower energy levels on weekends when the utility grid is less loaded.

Will you pay less in the new network lease model?

Typically, peak hours, i.e. the time when electricity consumption is highest, is statistically the time between 8.00 and 10.00 a.m. and between 16.00 and 19.00. This is when electricity consumption is highest in most households. The idea is that, for example, cooking meals, doing laundry, charging the car or using devices that require electricity do not take place at the same time. If you use little energy and put less strain on the network at the same time, you will pay less than those who consume a lot of energy at the same time.

It is also a good rule to switch on household appliances one after the other, not at the same time.

You can follow the exact price information as well as your own daily and monthly consumption peaks on the websites of your energy suppliers.
