About 1250 megaphones are deployed throughout the country warning the public of a serious danger. Sirens are found mainly in cities and towns, and signals from them are heard by more than half of Norway's population.

Twice a year Civil Defense tests loudspeakers alerting the public in case of undesirable incidents. Usually at noon on the second Wednesday of January and June. The alert was given as "Important Message - Get Information". The message is provided in three series with a one-minute break between the series. The signal means that you should look for information, for example on the radio, television, newspapers, on the websites of authorities and on social media.

Warning systems. June 8 test

Warning systems can be used in both peacetime and war. They are needed in order to warn the population of great danger. In peacetime, such notification may be important, inter alia, in the event of an accident in industrial plants, which resulted in the release of toxic or hazardous substances. In time of war, warning systems can be used in the event of threats of air attacks.

Civil Defense is responsible for the creation, maintenance and operation of warning facilities. The police are responsible for giving warnings in peacetime.

Civil defense is testing alarm sirens to see if they work.
