M109 artillery with equipment, spare parts and artillery ammunition. The personnel of the Armed Forces trained Ukrainian soldiers in the operation and maintenance of the equipment.

– Ukrainian forces depend on Western support in the form of military equipment and weapons to withstand Russian attacks. Ukraine has requested this type of arms support. Development war in Ukraine indicates that it is now necessary to also transfer heavier materials and weapons systems, Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said in a press release sent by the government today.

Powerful and strong weapon system

Colonel Kristian Lien is chief of artillery and air defense at the Rhine Military Weapons School. It is clear that Ukraine now has a powerful and strong weapons system from Norway:

- Thanks to this donation, Ukraine will have increased combat strength. It is completely beyond doubt. They now have weapons that allow them to use NATO standard ammunition, which they also have access to from several other countries, says Lien.

The Armed Forces have recently replaced the M109 artillery with newer and more modern systems, but still have the M109 in stock. 22 items were handed over with equipment, spare parts and ammunition.

Training in use and maintenance

The educational team from the Norwegian Armed Forces was in Germany and trained Ukrainian crews. It was a short and effective education aimed at enabling Ukrainians to safely and correctly operate the systems. Both in terms of use and maintenance.

- Equipment delivery and use and maintenance training completed. It went very well. They received a complete weapon pack that was tested and prepared with spare parts kits, both for use and maintenance, confirms Lien at the Military School of Armaments.
