According to the municipality of Bergen, on February 24 in Bergen, as a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine, a minute of silence will be held in memory of the victims of Russia's attack on Ukraine.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, February 24 at 11.50 on the west side of Bergen City Hall (in the square in front of Kaigaten).

The Ukrainian flag will be hoisted, and at 12.00 there will be a minute's silence and the performance of the national anthem of Ukraine.

The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, as well as City Council President Rune Bakervik, Mayor Linn Kristin Engø and Chargé d'affaires Lilia Honcharevych from the Ukrainian Embassy.

Everyone can participate

“Anyone who wants to participate can do so. It is also an opportunity to show respect and sympathy for the victims of war, says city councilor Rune Bakervik.

The mayor and the president of the city council will also take part in a demonstration organized by the Ukrainian Association in Torgallmenningen on Friday at 17.00.

Invasion of Ukraine

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, crossing the border and launching attacks against Ukrainian military and civilian targets. The launch of the invasion was also preceded by long-term tensions between Russia and Ukraine and increasing military movements on the Russian side in the region of the border.

The international community condemned Russia's aggression and introduced sanctions against Russia. Many countries provide Ukraine with humanitarian as well as military support. The situation in Ukraine remains very serious and the conflict is difficult to resolve.
