Fifteen people have been arrested and charged in a major organized crime operation, police say. On Wednesday morning, March 15, the Kripos and several police districts sprung into action.

Kripos has arrested and charged six people with serious drug offences. These are the people we believe are central to the criminal networks that bring large amounts of drugs into Norway, says Nora Pedersen, Kripos Police Lawyer.

In total, 15 people were arrested and charged. Kripos charged six people. The Oslo, Trøndelag and Øst police districts also arrested and charged a total of nine people. All are charged with serious drug offences.

The background for the activities is good international police cooperation. As part of this cooperation, the Norwegian police gained access to a large amount of communication between criminals.

– Actions are the result of a focused investment over time Norwegian police against masterminds of Norwegian criminal networks, says Kristin Kvigne, head of Kripos.

The Police Threat Assessment (PTV) was released on Tuesday this week. In it, the police point out that Norwegian criminal networks work closely with criminal networks abroad.

“The issue of our welfare state comes to the fore, which is at risk if criminal networks are given a free hand,” says Kvigne.

Several of the accused have been remanded in custody or will be imprisoned soon.

Another criminal threat highlighted in PTV is that criminals sell services to other criminals. This kind of buying and selling of criminal services is also seen in the investigations that have led to arrests today.

– This shows that criminal networks are becoming more and more professional. This is a development we are following closely, says Kvigne.
