After receiving a photo of the smoke plume, Norway's Meteornettverk believes the meteorite is in an area east of Glitre water.

People saw flashes of light, but so far no one has found the remains meteorite, which many saw on the night of July 25.

Calculations so far indicate that it must have flown over Harestua and Tyrifjorden before falling into Finnemark, a very deserted forest area north of Drammen. The Norwegian Meteornettverk has now made a new calculation that estimates it to be in the Finnemark area.

We have identified this is the place after analyzing the photos of the smudge of smoke.

- We managed to narrow the search area to 3,5 km long and 700-800 meters wide. Of course, there is a probability that it is outside the indicated area. However, we believe that this area is the best place to search, says Morten Bilet of the Norwegian Meteor Network

- There is a 60 to 70 percent chance it is there, but there is no certainty. Now we encourage everyone who moves in this area to search.

The hunt for the meteorite

- Look for black stones with rounded shapes. They usually attract a magnet, but not always. You can use a compass. This is better than using a very strong magnet that can destroy important scientific information.

If anyone finds a meteor or parts of it, they should take pictures and make a note of exactly where it was found. Then it can be put in a plastic bag for protection.

- It's fantastic to find the 17th meteorite in Norway. The first was found in the mid-nineteenth century, so it doesn't happen often. We believe locals can find it.

Recollection of a passing meteorite explosion

- It was absolutely crazy! I lit a cigarette and was on the phone with my roommate before going to bed, but suddenly saw a flaming fireball flying by, says Charlotte Eng (30).

She witnessed a meteor flying near her, unable to say how close it was. At one o'clock she was in Nærsnes in the Asker commune and describes the incident as the most spectacular she has ever experienced.
