On week 34 and week 35, Mosseporten will be closed to traffic from 00.30 am and until 05.30 am. In the coming weeks, the lighting fittings and cables in the tunnel will be replaced.

The first closure will occur on the night of Monday, August 22. The last closure will be on the night of Saturday, September 3.

Better traffic safety, more reliable operation and electricity saving

- The lighting is ready to be replaced. We received inquiries from the public that described the tunnel as dark and that the roundabout closest to E6 appears very suddenly, says the Norwegian Public Roads Authority's electricity project manager, Tom Ferdinand Luther.

Older luminaires are now being replaced with modern LED lighting.

- The new LED lighting means road users will feel the tunnel is much brighter and more fun to use. This will not only help to increase traffic safety, it will also ensure safety, says Luther.

It also emphasizes that it is economically viable to replace old lighting with modern LED lighting. LED technology requires less electricity and is much more reliable.

Tunnel open as usual during the day

The works are carried out by the contractor SET Elektro AS.

In order for the works to cause as little inconvenience as possible for road users, the works are carried out at night, with little traffic. During the day, the tunnel will be open to traffic as usual.

Mosseporten is closed

Mosseporten is a 295-meter tunnel that opened in 1963, at the same time as the E6 route between Patterød and Smørbekk. The tunnel runs up the mountain on the access road between the E6 and the city center. It is the oldest road tunnel in Østfold.
