The third is to stab the arm with a knife. At the time, police asked people to stay indoors and away from Sarpsborg's center.

The first news was about a stabbed woman, police said in a press release around 1:30 am. Soon after, they received new reports of knife stabs in St. Nicholas Street and the Oskars gate. All three victims are women.

Police assessed the situation as an ongoing, life-threatening incident and therefore dispatched all available crews to Sarpsborg.

Police further said that one of the victims had recognized the perpetrator and that the person had been arrested at an address in the center of Sarpsborg.

At the moment, there is no indication that more people may be involved in this case. And that the police now have the whole situation under control. At the same time, they state that they will be in Sarpsborg with great force all night long to ensure safety, peace and order.

A defense attorney for a 31-year-old accused of murder and attempted murder in Sarpsborg said the prosecution could not prove the man guilty.

The 31-year-old was arrested and charged after three women were stabbed in Sarpsborg on Tuesday night.

The first hearing on the case was today Wednesday, but according to his defense attorney, there was not much evidence and the defense attorney said the man was unable to take a position on the case.

Last year, the man was acquitted in another case, VG writes. The verdict says that a few years ago he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where he was treated for paranoid delusions.

The man is currently in custody at Kalnes Hospital and an investigation into his mental health is underway.
