The Norwegian media returned to speculations about replacing the current passports issued in the Schengen area with new ID cards. The topic is not new - similar speculations took place in 2007. At that time, the cost of this project was estimated at PLN 14 million crowns Norwegian. Currently, there is talk of even 700 millions of crowns Norwegian.

Up to five times a piece

Speculations Norwegian media are due to the slowness of work on this solution. Finally present Justice Minister Tor Mikkel Wara is the sixth minister in a row dealing with this topic. Additionally, the project implementation date has already been postponed five times. Currently, there is no certain date when the work will be completed. It certainly won't be any faster than in 2020.

There is no ID-kord - just like the guilty ones

Replacing passports with ID-kord ID cards is considered a joint project of the Ministry of Justice and Norwegian police – and the latter body is its originator. Thus, she is assigned responsibility not only for finalizing the idea, but also for the efficiency of legislative work.

No support and management

According to the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, both sides are to blame. Norwegian Police there was no effective management of this project and there was no adequate support from the Ministry.

The fault is also in the finances

Providing adequate financing for such an expensive project also poses problems. Over 11 years cost increased from NOK 14 million to over NOK 700 million. This amount consists of: expense 600 million NOK related to the exchange of evidence itself, and the modernization of offices will cost over NOK 120 million. These revelations came to light in the fall of 2017.
