A week with boosters poisoning

Over the past week, there have been many incidents involving the use of popular psychoactive substances that can be accessed by anyone. Due to the practice of frequent changes in the composition of legal highs and the use of a legal sale procedure, it is difficult to stop the production and sale of hazardous substances.

Not only young people

This time, the most numerous group of victims are the inhabitants of Wałcz, aged 16 to 37. Within a few days, eight people were admitted to the local hospital with symptoms of drug poisoning. The symptoms include: slight reactions to stimuli, resistance to pain, psychomotor agitation or even loss of consciousness. Two people are in what doctors describe as severe and the other six are in a moderately severe condition.

It has already happened twice in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship

This is the second situation of this type in the Westpomeranian Region in recent weeks. Just a month and a half ago, a dozen or so young people were hospitalized due to the symptoms of drug poisoning - all of them came from Trzebiatów. At that time, it was also possible to distinguish specific symptoms of intoxication with psychoactive substances. The adolescents experienced vomiting, psychotic states, disturbances of consciousness, body tremors, attacks of dyspnea and a feeling of choking, as well as - in the last stage of agitation - convulsions and cramps tearing the whole body.

Distribution of substances hazardous to health is punishable by up to eight years in prison. However, the enforcement of these penalties turns out to be problematic. Finding evidence that traffickers are aware that the products have narcotic effects is almost a miracle. The commission on health matters will already deal with finding effective solutions. The new bill to counteract drug addiction assumes that the penalty will be increased to 12 years, while the mere possession of legal highs will be punishable by 3 years in prison.
