Ryanair is a well-known Irish airline that is considered the largest in Europe and one of the world's largest low-cost carriers. Their story is full of controversy, and yet they still enjoy great popularity. In August, the carrier announced new, quite shocking information related to hand luggage.
Old rules
We are aware that a passenger who has purchased a cheap flight ticket will not be interested in additional paid luggage. Until now, Ryanair allowed to take on board small hand luggage and large ones weighing up to 10 kg. Of course, the latter was additionally payable and ended up in the luggage compartment.
More expensive ticket - bigger discounts
An important thing is that passengers who bought a more expensive ticket in the Plus, Flexi Plus or Family Plus fare or had priority boarding, could also afford, in accordance with the applicable rules, to carry large luggage on board without paying an additional fee.
New rules
In August, the carrier announced on its website that from 1.11.2018 it was changing the rules for the carriage of luggage. According to the information, only small luggage could be brought to the plane, and the large one was always to be paid for and handed over to the aircraft hold. The only exception was if the passenger had purchased priority boarding.
An avalanche of negative opinions
Ryanair is famous for many controversies, most often caused by the company's strong pressure to cut costs. This time it was no different, because after the announcement of the changes that were to come into force on November 1 this year, an avalanche of negative comments fell on the company. This was a cumulation due to large numbers of canceled flights and numerous strike threats. This was quickly noticed and the airlines decided to alleviate the situation a little.
Update
Yesterday, an information appeared on the airline's website that passengers who bought a flight ticket (and there are about 2 million of them) before August 31.08.2018, 1.11.2018 for a flight after November 50, XNUMX and do not have priority boarding, will not pay for large luggage. Persons who, however, purchased the fast-boarding option, will receive a refund (approximately XNUMX passengers), but will retain the resulting service.
