The change from summer to winter time is a moment that has been with us for a long time. We put our watches back one hour and we live on, so what's the argument?

Where did the idea for the time change come from?

The first idea came from the mouth of US founder Benjamin Franklin. After all his observations and calculations, he came to the conclusion that people get up very early from spring to work, and in the evenings their life goes on with candles lit. The change in this case was to save human money that was spent on a large number of candles. On April 30, 1916, the Germans also set the time forward one hour to set it back in October. Other countries joined this change immediately after them.

Main intention

The time change accompanies us twice a year. Currently, apart from changing our way of life and watches, we do not see any differences and benefits of this fact. The main purpose and intention of this activity is the maximum use of daylight by humans. Studies show that changing the time can save between 1 and 4 percent in energy.

The European Union wants to standardize the time

The head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, announced in his last speech that the time change in the European Union will be abolished. Before the decision was made, the EC conducted consultations on this matter. 4,6 million responses, or 80% of people taking part in the survey, were in favor abolition of the change time.

When will the change come?

The announcement of the head of the European Commission will not have a quick start, and this year, on October 28, we will certainly switch our watches from summer to winter time.

Consequences

As a consequence of the results of its survey, the European Commission may decide not to change the time, but it may also allow interested parties to choose the type of time they will use. This could even lead to Ireland having two different times. At the moment, we have to wait for more details and prepare for perhaps the last change of summer time to winter time.
