Decline in car sales in Norway in 2018. It turns out, however, that one type of car increases its interest among buyers every year.

The hybrid grows stronger

The 2018 data, which analyzes car sales in Norway, clearly shows which types of cars were of the greatest interest. For many years, sales on the Norwegian market have been characterized by the fact that electric cars and battery hybrids have a very large market share. Good shopping conditions, characterized by a favorable tax system, are a big plus when buying this type of car. 2018 showed in Norway that cars using alternative fuels strengthened their position even more.

Increased sales of zero-emission cars

There's no denying that it's a sale cars in Norway zero emissions has increased significantly. In 2017, 20,9% of all newly registered cars were zero-emission vehicles. In turn, in 2018 this number was 31,2%. If we were to take into account all types of electrified cars, in 2018 they accounted for 49,1% of the market. For comparison, it is 9,9 percentage points more than in 2017. Thanks to such results Norway is among the countries with the highest sales of cars with alternative fuel.

Car sales drop

In terms of sales of regular cars, 2018 was slightly worse than the previous year. In 2017, Norway recorded very high sales that would be hard to beat. The past year has brought Norway 147 newly registered cars which is a decrease from the previous year by 10. However, even taking into account the decline in car sales, 721 is still among the six years with the highest car sales in history.

Too few electric cars

Although 2018 was a successful time in terms of electric car sales, the total number of cars forecasted was lower than expected. The decline in electric car sales was due to the transition to a new method of measuring emissions. The switch to the new measurement method, WLTP, meant that some manufacturers were unable to deliver certain car models in the fall of 2018. Additionally, there is still a very small selection of large family electric cars on the market that would have a good range and affordable price.

More favorable technology, greater safety and lower emissions. Everything that car manufacturers offer us today is beneficial for us in terms of our safety, comfort, and care for our environment. That is why it is so important to replace the car fleet with newer models.
