We have important information. There are stinging anemones in Hordaland. They can be very dangerous: to health and even life. Among other things, they cause severe burns and injure the body. Unfortunately, a few people who bathe in the sea in Austevoll municipality in Hordaland County have already experienced the negative effects of encounters with a new species of water anemone. What to do? How to be careful?

Stinging anemones in Hordaland - the eyes of scientists

Scientists recommend increased caution - not only in the mentioned bathing area, but also in nearby places. The ankle had already settled on the bottom for good and injured several people. Maybe it occurs elsewhere outside of Hordaland.

“The natural habitat of this anemone is the coastal waters of the British Isles. Now it has also appeared in our waters, and on some beaches in the commune of Austevoll, these anemones now cover entire areas of the bottom. Unlike other anemones, this one can move quite quickly and climb along the bottom.” - says NTB Gro van der Meeren, scientist at the Bergen Sea Research Institute (Havforskningsinstituttet).

Stinging anemones in Hordaland - how to recognize them?

Let's move on to the most important issue. How do you recognize this new, dangerous species of anemone? We can come across two variants - one is brown and the other is green and purple. Although the former has appeared in Hordaland - we cannot be 100% sure that we will not be fighting the latter in a moment. Scientists agree that the one appearing in Norway is a brown variety of green Anemonia viridiswhich has already been observed in and around Flesland.

You are burned. What to do?

First of all, you should not panic and make nervous movements that can only worsen our condition. It is imperative that you contact your doctor as soon as possible. However, before he can help you, it is good to pour sea or salt water over the wound. Avoid freshwater - it will only aggravate the pain.
