In the past weeks, 287,200 workers applied for NAV unemployment benefits because they had been temporarily laid or laid off. NAV allows these applicants to apply for Unemployment Benefit from Monday 30 March. Money can be withdrawn before Easter.
Our systems must be developed to handle the new rules, and our staff must be prepared to manage cases. Therefore, we are delighted to be able to make an advance payment for unemployment benefits from next week. The solutions that we are proposing now are being developed at an extraordinary speed, both in terms of regulatory work and development of IT solutions, says NAV director Sigrun Vågeng.
It applies to the temporarily laid off and unemployed
The program applies to both temporarily laid off and unemployed people. However, this does not apply to freelancers and the self-employed, for whom the Storting has decided to create a completely new benefit program. For this group, the government is still looking for a solution.
You have to apply for an advance yourself
To receive an advance payment, you must:
- Apply for unemployment benefit
- You must meet the basic requirements for entitlement to unemployment benefits
- Apply for an advance payment
You can apply for an advance on nav.no from the afternoon of Monday 30 March. It will not be possible to claim advances until the service is available at nav.no.
You must continue to submit your registration card.
How much will you get
The advance payment will be a bit lower than the benefit. NAV transfer for one month, the amount will be approximately 60 percent of the last salary to 6G (600). NAV deducts 000 percent of the advance tax amount, which is calculated according to the tax card. The advance payment will be deducted from unemployment benefits.
When will you get your money?
If you apply on Monday, March 30th or Tuesday, March 31st, the down payment will be credited to your account on Friday April 3rd. Anyone who reports by Friday, April 3, will be paid by Wednesday, April 8.
Why we decided to make an advance payment
Within two weeks, NAV received more than 287 applications for unemployment benefits. Unemployment in Norway is currently the highest since World War II. Neither the regulations, NAV staff nor NAV case management systems are prepared. They cannot handle such a large number of cases quickly. A simpler and more automated advance payment system allows NAV to send money quickly, while regulations and IT systems are adapted to Storting decisions.
